Visiting colleagues in Hungary within the NENUPHAR project
by doc. Ing. Elena Aydin, PhD.
Since November 2023, the staff of Institute of Landscape Engineering, Faculty of Horticulture and Landscape Engineering is actively involved in the international project NENUPHAR - New governance models to enhance nutrient pollution handling and nutrients recycling (November 2023 - April 2027).
The task of the institute in the project is to design a solution for the treatment of dairy wastewater that could convert the waste into a source of nitrogen and phosphorus. The resulting nutrients could be used as agricultural fertilizer. This innovative solution offers a number of benefits, including operational savings, avoidance of fines and improved brand reputation.
Within the project consortium, the Institute is also actively collaborating with the Szechenyi Istvan University in Győr on the project. The Institute's researchers met with representatives of this institution to discuss work on joint research tasks for a demonstration site in the Danube basin and to see some of the technical infrastructure in Nitra in December 2023 and in Mosonmagyaróvár, Hungary, in June 2024.
