Students and Applicants for Studies with Special Needs

The Faculty of Horticulture and Landscape Engineering creates, in accordance with Act No. 131/2002 Z.z. (hereinafter referred to as "the Act"), a universally accessible academic environment as well appropriate conditions of study for students and applicants with special needs without reducing the requirements for their study performance and in accordance with the principles of equal opportunities.

Students / Candidates with special needs:

Under § 100 Article 2 of the Act, a student with special needs is considered as a student:
a) with sensory, physical and multiple disabilities,
b) with chronic disease,
c) with health impairment,
d) with mental illness,
e) with autism or other pervasive developmental disorders,
f) learning disabilities.

Applicants with special needs:

If Entrance Examination is the part of admission procedure, based on the applicant with specific needs request and on the basis of an assessment of their specific needs, the form of the Entrance Examination is determined together with the way in which it will be carried out taking into account their specific needs. Request for modifying the form and the method of passing the Entrance Examination will be delivered by the applicant with specific needs together with the Entry Questionnaire and the written application for study.

Students with special needs:

Under § 100 Article 4 of the Act, a student who agrees to evaluate their special needs has the right, according to the extent and type of special needs, to support services, in particular:
a) availability of specific learning resources,
b) individual educational approaches, especially individual teaching of selected subjects for students with sensory disabilities,
c) special conditions for learning without reducing the requirements for study performance,
d) individual approach of higher education teachers,
e) forgiveness of tuition fees in justified cases where the study is longer than the standard length of the relevant study programme.

Student with special needs wishing to use the support services will file a written Request for inclusion to the Register of students with special needs together with Entry Questionnaire, both sent to the Coordinator for students with special needs doc. Dean of the faculty, based on the recommendation of the Coordinator and Vice-Dean for Education, will issue decision on inclusion to the Register of students with special needs and grant appropriate adjustments and support services at the SPU in Nitra.
