SUA in Nitra Hosted International NENUPHAR Meetings Focused on Sustainable Water Management
15.06.2026On 2–3 June 2026, the Faculty of Horticulture and Landscape Engineering and University Farm hosted important international meetings of the Horizon Europe project NENUPHAR - New Governance Models to Enhance Nutrient Pollution Handling and Nutrients Recycling at the AgroBioTech Research Center.
Ing. Kristína Karchňáková, PhD.
The first day was dedicated to the NENUPHAR General Assembly Meeting, which brought together project partners from several European countries to evaluate the progress of project activities, discuss impact assessment results, and coordinate upcoming milestones. The programme focused on sustainable water management solutions tested in pilot river basin sites across Slovakia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, and Spain.
The meeting was opened by representatives of SUA in Nitra and project coordinator CIRCE. Participants reviewed recent achievements and discussed the next steps planned for the second half of the project implementation.
A significant part of the programme focused on demonstration activities within individual river basin pilot sites. Prof. Ľuboš Jurík from SUA in Nitra presented progress achieved in the Slovak demonstration site located in the Danube river basin, including monitoring activities and validation of implemented solutions.
The second day continued with an interregional workshop as a meeting with representatives of Slovak organizations (partnering dairies and organic fertilizer producers) and organized by FHLE and SUA - UF. The workshop brought together researchers, industry experts, and project representatives to exchange experiences in the areas of nutrient pollution reduction, innovative wastewater treatment, and circular solutions in agriculture and water management. The program included presentations on Horizon projects and regional cooperation activities, followed by expert discussions on sustainable nutrient management and environmental protection. Participants also attended a technical demonstration of wastewater treatment technology for dairies developed at the Institute of Landscape Engineering, FHLE SUA in Nitra.
The two-day international event confirmed the active role of SUA in Nitra in European research activities and highlighted the importance of interdisciplinary cooperation in addressing current environmental challenges and water management issues.
